Oast Barn Extension, Lamberhurst Quarter

Robert Mumby Architects designed an extension for the detached oast barn near Lamberhurst Quarter on the A21. Despite the complex planning restrictions due to its location in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Beauty, planning approval was achieved and the client was able to create a stunning addition.

The extension is a full-length, single-storey structure made primarily of zinc and glass. It features a glazed link that connects the existing house to the new extension. This addition includes an extended kitchen area and an enlarged lounge that offer panoramic views to the south, and the beautiful rolling countryside of the High Weald.

The design of the extension incorporates an agricultural-inspired aesthetic, which is in harmony with the surrounding area. The use of simple repeating forms in zinc panels along the side of the square oast and long stowage building evokes the look of traditional farm sheds and barns commonly found in the immediate vicinity.

Overall, the Oast Barn extension by Robert Mumby Architects successfully combines modern design elements with a nod to the agricultural heritage of the area, resulting in a unique and visually appealing addition to the Oast house.
